INTELLIGENCE AND LIBIDO

In my article "EXPERIENCES" I mentioned Jung and Freud in relation to their theories on the libido, just... to show off a bit.

I read something about the relationship between libido and intelligence, and I started looking.

For the time being I find rather light content on the subject. We will have to go back to Jung and Freud.

One of the most famous self-help books (I read this initially from Venus O'Hara, creator of THE ORGASMIC LIFESTYLE) is apparently "Think and grow rich" (1937) by Napoleon Hill. This gentleman mentions this factor, stating that many of the most successful people have been individuals with high libido levels but who have known how to channel their sexual energy towards their objectives. This assertion does not seem to me to be negligible. I vote yes.

Venus also mentions in passing how many ─ mainly men ─ lose themselves in carnal passions (as well as alcohol, drugs, etc.) leaving their lives adrift for lack of libido control. True.

I find another 2013 study from the British sex toy brand LOVEHONEY, which claimed that students at the most elite British universities (Cambridge, Oxford and Manchester) spent a more significant amount of money on sex toys compared to other universities. Interesting but also suspicious - could there be a relationship between economic ability and spending on sex toys? I suspect so. It may be that LOVEHONEY's study responds to a dark plan to attract more students among its online shoppers. No doubt about it. Going to the LOVEHONEY website, I see that they have special discounts for students... Sounds good to me.

I find a recent article by a Justin Gammill (sorry about "a so-and-so", but I don't know him, not for anything else, and he to me least of all) that mentions this LOVEHONEY study. He makes a funny comment about it (I like his sense of humor!):

"Now, at first glance, this might seem like an excuse for someone who considers themselves intelligent to be horny. I think it's much deeper than that. While I consider myself a person of slightly above average intelligence and may be hornier than I should be, I think this study has deeper implications than its superficial results."

Certainly, it seems that we seem to be very concerned about relating intelligence with libido, as if we want to justify ourselves 😉.

Después el articulista sigue atando esta conexión con aspectos evolutivos: las personas más inteligentes tienen mayor necesidad de reproducirse, con lo que se mejora la especie.

However, other studies say that this high libido level of intelligent people does not correspond with more sex with actual partners. Gammill's article says that intelligent people with high libidos also have other things to do than think about sleeping with people. So those who have more sex with real partners are the ones who are not so smart, and they also reproduce more, so the smart ones don't reproduce as much as they should... What a mess! This is also where birth control comes in. I don't feel like going into this now. I'm getting dizzy.

Humor aside, I do not think it is wrong to think that to do important things you must have energy and that this vital energy comes from the libido, which effectively, well channeled, leads us to pursue goals. It is not in vain that the definition of libido in psychology is fuerza subyacente en todas las tendencias relacionadas con los instintos de la vida.

The opposite of death is not life, but desire, in general.
