LIBERTINE, SWINGER AND LIBERAL WORLD

The terms Swinger or Swingering ring a bell. But to better understand this world we have to know that the range is somewhat wider than it seems.

LIBERTINE WORLD

From my space I invite to question. I have been interested in the libertine world, which I consider very interesting in its approaches, as a way of discovering one's own sexuality and experimentation.  I do not defend any particular way of life or practice, but always freedom and respect. We are all living and finding things along the way.

Let's first get to know the background: the Libertinage. First we must know the origins of Libertinaje. In Latin libertus significa liberado.

The term was used in the 16th century in Italy with the emergence of a movement linked to authors such as Machiavelli. The word was used more specifically to designate those who were free of any religious doctrine, that is to say, those who had freedom of thought. It arose at court as a movement linked to the aristocracy.

In the 17th century, the current spread to France, with the poet Théophile de Viau as its standard-bearer, with the meaning of being freed from religious and philosophical constraints.

In the 18th century, the century of the Enlightenment in France, women acquire great intellectual relevanceand they feel confident to speak about passion and desire. If before the love ideal was merely "virtuous", here it becomes carnal.

The Enlightment century is above all one of experimentation in all fields, and in the field of love this is what Libertinism will do.

In the Encliclopedia by Denis Diderot and Jean D'Alembert Libertinage is defined as:

"the habit of yielding to the instinct that leads us to the pleasures of the senses; it does not respect morality, and does not hesitate to defy it; it lacks delicacy."

The libertine is a provocateur who recognizes no moral authority other than his conscience.

Today, a libertine is defined as "a follower of freedom of thought, who allows himself to deviate from the cultural, intellectual, moral or sexual norms of his time.

We will only mention a few of the numerous works of Libertinage:

"Dangerous friendships". by Laclos: novel portraying 18th century characters who manipulate and seduce in the court aristocracy.

"Philosophy in the boudoir". by the Marquis de Sade: in a transgressive and provocative way, it explores libertine ideas and questions the morals of the time and conventions.

"Justina or the misfortunes of virtue."also by Sade, darkly exposes the excesses of debauchery.

The Venus of the Furs". by Sache-Masoch, about power, dominance and submission through a sado-masochistic relationship between a man and a woman.

The indiscreet jewels". of Diderot himself: a magic ring reveals the intimate thoughts... of women.

To overcome the censorship of the time, the strategy was to present these works as descriptions of depravity aimed at defining it in order to differentiate it from virtue.

Libertine characters are often seductive, cultivated, manipulative in the pursuit of carnal pleasures, and cynical about authentic feelings, but they have served to address issues such as institutions, power, desire and guilt.

In later romantic literature, libertinism presents characters more closely linked to the search for authenticity in a corrupt and superficial environment.

Thus they question moral norms, criticize hypocrisy in the pursuit of individual freedom and sexual exploration.

In short, they have contributed greatly to rethinking the idea of morality, individual freedom and social conformity.

SWINGER WORLD

But why are we talking about this? Let's suddenly land in our days A survey conducted by YouGov.Poll among 1,300 North Americans resulted in 32% stating that their ideal partner relationship was in some way non-monogamous. In the early 50's and 60's, the so-called Swinger currents were initiated within the movement. hippy and also in the context of wars. In any case, Swingering comes to respond to a need to open the monogamous couple to new sexual experiences. Initially, Swingering as such requires these characteristics:
  • Stable and committed couple
  • Open to sexual relations with other partners
  • They wish to have a shared experience with their partner and both agree.
But today other practices of these couples with individual persons have been included within the Swinger practices. But in its origin Swinger is a stable couple that agrees to make sexual exchange with another couple of the same type. Customs are changing and we are not going to close the category. In short, it is about opening sexuality to new experiences. Although Swingering also consists in a more private environment in meeting people related to these practices, dialogue, check compatibilities and if encounters occur, the interesting thing is to repeat and get to know each other.

LIBERAL WORLD

Liberals would be couples who reach an agreement to practice a traditional non-monogamous sexuality with the particular agreement between them in each case.

Thus, if we do not consider some practices as Swingering as such, these individual people who have sexual exchanges with Swinger partners or with other individuals, can be called liberal.

We have to use tags because they help us to know what we are talking about without having to make lengthy clarifications.
